An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes - Sabaa Tahir

An excellent debut novel! I had heard so many great things about this book, but I could not imagine it was going to be so good.

The path of the book is perfect; it's neither too slow nor too fast. It is just the way it should be, which does not happen a lot in books I'm reading. The plot is not too predictable even if you can find some recurrent tropes in YA. There is no love triangle (it's more of a square actually), but the love interest is well developed and seem natural. The characters are complex and human, they have real emotions. I just don't know how to explain what was so good about this book, but I adored it. It may be my favourite book of the year!

I really recommend this book to people who have given up on YA and want to give it another try, I found it really different from other books. You find elements of a lot of different novels, but it is done in a really unique way and I find it refreshing.
