50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James

I needed to read this book, out of curiosity because it has sold millions of copies and the movie was a success. Also, my mom, my brother-in-law and many of my friends liked it. So I gave it a try. The positive thing is that I listened to it as an audiobook and it was thus easier to endure. I really don't understand why this book was so popular. Here are some of the numerous problems I had with this book:
- The writing. The fact that I listened to it made it easier because the writing did not seem so annoying. But I really did not like the way it was written (I can't count the times the main characters said "holy cow", "holy fuck", "oh, my" and all the rest). The structure are really badly constructed.
- The characters were so empty and so dull, and not really realistic. I wanted to strangle Anna for being so dumb.
- The sex scenes. I hated them. I mean, the goal of this is to turn you on, right? Did not work at all.
Really, I had to give it a try and I did, I even finished the book. I don't to be mean or to be critical just to shock people or anything, I am really trying to be as honest as I can, and this book may be enjoyable for some people, and that is very good for them. I just cannot understand how.
If you want to read "erotica" stuff like that, there are many better books out there, I am sure of it.
