#24 - Magnus Chase and The Sword Of Summer by Rick Riordan

Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer - Rick Riordan

This is the first book in the Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard series which is Rick Riordan's series about Norse mythology.

Rick Riordan’s books are always such pleasant reads: they have great characters, a lot of humor and some great but crazy storylines about Gods and stuff.

This series is about Norse mythology, and after reading and really enjoying the Percy Jackson series, I wanted to start this one. I will probably read all of Rick Riordan’s series (if you don’t know, he has a bunch of books about Greek and Roman gods and he also wrote a series about Egyptian mythology) but I really wanted to read this one first because I feel like we don’t know a lot about Norse mythology. In school, I learned about Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, but Norse mythology was not part of the deal. It is such a shame because it is as interesting as the other mythologies and I found it fascinating (listening to a lot of Folk Metal kind of introduced me to the subject. I actually listened to some great bands about Norse mythology while reading this book. Maybe I could do a post about some of those bands... would you be interested?)

I love how the author addressed the subject; it is pretty accurate with a lot of real facts but it is set in today’s world and Gods are doing crazy stuff, like using smart phones or watching television while still being their god selves. I think it is such a great idea and the author always does it with a lot of humor. His series also overlap: in this book for example, we meet Annabeth again whom you will remember from the Percy Jackson series.

It was thus not surprising because Rick Riordan's books always follow the same pattern, but I knew what I was going to get, and it’s exactly what I wanted. I'm really looking forward to continuing on with this series!
